Distortion is known as an orchestrated chaos to celebrate Copenhagen Nightlife culture. It’s a week-long celebration of upcoming and established DJ’s and artists. Each day of the week people gather at a new and unusual location for the hottest beats and latest trends in nightlife culture. Clubbers also flock to the streets to experience one of the world’s biggest line-ups. There are plenty of different parties, many of which are rather exclusive and tickets sell quickly.

Getting There

Copenhagen is clearly a very long way from Australia. It will take a big pile of cash to get there just for the festival. Of course, if you're already in Europe, or planning a larger trip, getting there from within Europe is a cinch. Once there, transport around the city and to party locations is easy. Like most European cities, Copenhagen has easy, quick and cheap public transport.

Where to Stay

There are plenty of hotels, motels and hostels to choose from and it’s possible to find something close to Distortion that’s within your budget. It’s always a good idea to book as soon as you can though.

Sexy Score

Hot and sexy times match the night life culture of Distortion. A week packed with countless street parties and club events is sure bring some sexy times. Plus, hostels will be packed with party people with a general mood of relaxation and exploration.

At the Festival

Sex in other Cities Tipsheet
  • There are a range of tickets and prices. It’s a good idea to book early for excellent deals. You could save over $100 with pre-sale prices. Be sure to buy tickets early as this event will sell out quick!
  • Hydrate. Keeping your fluids up will help you party for longer
  • Although this is meant to be a summer event, take something warm to put on as the weather isn’t always as predicted
  • Protect your valuables. Don’t put all your cash in one place
  • Watch out for drink spiking at venue parties
  • Ear plugs are your friends! Better sound clarity; less brutal hangover; hear your friends speak; get closer to the action; a festival must have!

What could go wrong

The nightlife culture in Copenhagen will have similar risks to the equivalent back home. Be aware of creeps and drink spiking. Popping party pills also puts people at a higher risk of injury, regret or getting in trouble with local authorities. STI’s may spike in the city around festival time. Check out our hot tips for staying safe in the sack.

Where to get help

There is a new testing centre called CheckPoint right on Stroeget in Copenhagen, for STI testing. You can either call for an appointment (51 90 17 44) or drop in (Amagertorv 33, 4 sal – midt på Strøget).

If you do get into trouble, head for The Venereal Clinic, Bispebjerg Hospital Copenhagen NV (Veneraklinikken, Bispebjerg Hospital KBH NV) Address: Bispebjergbakke 23, 4. Tværvej, Section D 51, staircase 5, 1. floor, Copenhagen NV 2400, Denmark Phone: 45 35313180

Want to know more?

Sex on holiday happens.

Whether planned or not, away from home we lose at least some of our inhibitions
and may take more risks than we would at home.

This is ok, it’s what makes travelling so exciting.
Accepting this before we go is the first step to planning.

To help you get home with no more than a bruised bank account
and awesome memories, here are some useful tips:

  • Carry condoms. Pack condoms before you leave home. Condoms aren’t always readily available or good quality so grab some before you leave and carry a supply in your handbag or wallet. Holidays and a sense of freedom doesn’t make you less susceptible to STIs so take care every time you have sex.
  • Have an STI test before you go and after you get back. Click here for testing locations.
  • Sex workers in other countries are not always in a safe environment or hold the same standards of safer sex and STI testing as they do in Australia. Use condoms and insist on using them.
  • Holidays can encourage us to try drugs and drink more alcohol than we might at home. Your body is still your body, regardless of where you are – know your limits and keep to them. Drugs and alcohol can impair our ability to keep our wits about us and recognise dangers – in a foreign place this becomes even more important.
